Ubuntu 9.10 ”Karmic Koala” is out
By Christian on 29 oktober 2009 under Gundersson(dot)com
Woot! It’s finally arrived and it’s looking very promising! There are some very nice features in this one that I’m really looking forward to trying out. Here’s a short list of some of the news:
- New instant messaging client/framework. Empathy replaces Pidgins for instant messaging (as the default app, Pidgin will still be available of course) and ushering in a more integrated environment for message handling.
- Out-of-the-box integration with Ubuntu One, a free 2GB online storage repository for safe off-site backup and syncronization of your documents. That’s nice! :)
- A new ”Software center” to make installing and choosing applications even easier than before. Lets face it, Synaptic wasn’t really that hard was it?
- A brand new boot system allowing full X stack at bootup making the wait much more pleasant. Not really a utility feature but nice nonetheless.
- Revamped Netbook Edition that I can’t wait to try out on the old craptop at home.
There’s a lot more than this short list so if you havn’t checked it out yet I suggest you head over to www.ubuntu.com and download it.
Enjoy! (I know I will :))

So it was only natural that when I installed my brand new Samsung F1 1TB harddrive that I set aside some space for a Linux install as well.
I thought about the how and what of the installation and I recalled an application that let you set up a Linux install on top of a MS Windows installation, the application of course is Wubi Installer. What it does is quite simple but powerful, it gives you the option of installing Linux side by side with your MS Windows install without having the need to re-partition your hard drive.
