Choosing a suitable publishing format.

I have been involved with ‘the web’ for some time now, about five years or so. And I dare to call myself at least semi skilled in both design and development. I have used and tested an array of different content management systems and tools that claim to help ease publishing your content. The common thing among theese systems have been that they all have some underlying focus or target group for whom the system is being developed. The differences between two systems may be small to the brink of unnoticeable, but nevertheless makes for a completely alternate experience. And two, although seemingly identical systems, can be suited for very different things.

This site has been the subject of my many whims and suddent mood shift. One day I could run MovableType and the next I would install WordPress, only to go back to MT right after. And there have been many systems, and many changes and I thought at the beginning that it was because I wanted to test them all, and I did. But the real underlying problem, I have realized, is that I don’t want to work in the way they are designed.

Perhaps I’m just put together ass backwards, or stupid, or both. But no matter why, the fact still remains, I have not yet found the system for me. Perhaps there isn’t one. Anyway, I don’t expect to find one until I figure out what to make of this site. I visit, read and enjoy excellent sites as SimpleBits, Jason Santa Maria, Jeffrey Zeldman, and the list just go on, and I imagined that that was the kind of page that I too wanted. But that is not for me. I have come to call my site the ‘the slow blogging emporium’, at least to my self. I don’t want to sit and think up interesting topics to write about on a daily basis, that is better left to those who have something interesting to say. But I still want the ability to post about stuff when it happens. So what to do?

Well, the last months I have done some careful rethinking and come to the conclusion that this isn’t really a blog, but more like a messageboard. You pin stuff on it that you may want to find later, whether it be a picture, piece of code or a tiny news flash. So expect ”Yet another remake”, when it happens I can’t say. Depends largely on when I get sufficient time left over, like that ever happens. In the mean time I’ll be looking for a new system.

Be well.
