Upgrading WP hassle
I finally got around to upgrading my WordPress installation. I used the 2.0.1 version and wanted the latest, just to be sure. I backed up everything on the site just to be on the sure side. I downloaded the package and unpacked it. I connected through ”Nautilus” using ssh to my host. I then started to copy the files over. You’d think that everything would go smootly, would’nt you? Yea, right!
Actually, the installation worked out fine. There wasn’t any problems with that. When I got the files over I just hit ”Upgrade” and voilá! The site was updated. The problem was that somehow my computer would hang at about one third in to the copying. I initially thought it was due to overheating since I recently had that problem and the monitor had the CPU over 40 degrees celsius.
So I started doing everything very slowly and didn’t run any additional applications at the same time. Didn’t help. I tried smaller chunks of files. Didn’t work either. I tried using the text based ”scp” application. Same result. I then uploaded the packages file, unpacked it remotely, and then copied it over. That did work.
Can’t find any reason for this. Almost spooky. Well, it’s installed now anyway so there you go.
