Woot! It’s finally arrived and it’s looking very promising! There are some very nice features in this one that I’m really looking forward to trying out. Here’s a short list of some of the news:
- New instant messaging client/framework. Empathy replaces Pidgins for instant messaging (as the default app, Pidgin will still be available of course) and ushering in a more integrated environment for message handling.
- Out-of-the-box integration with Ubuntu One, a free 2GB online storage repository for safe off-site backup and syncronization of your documents. That’s nice! :)
- A new ”Software center” to make installing and choosing applications even easier than before. Lets face it, Synaptic wasn’t really that hard was it?
- A brand new boot system allowing full X stack at bootup making the wait much more pleasant. Not really a utility feature but nice nonetheless.
- Revamped Netbook Edition that I can’t wait to try out on the old craptop at home.
There’s a lot more than this short list so if you havn’t checked it out yet I suggest you head over to www.ubuntu.com and download it.
Enjoy! (I know I will :))
