GDC Gallery for WordPress

I’ve been working on this off and on since this summer and I never got around to wrapping it all up. Now I finally made it so far as to making it usable. It’s ”Yet-another-wordpress-gallery-plugin” I know, but I’ve been looking for a gallery plugin that suits me and that doesn’t require any third-party gallery [...]

CakePHP development framework

If you’re a somewhat active web developer you probably have heard about the ”Ruby on Rails” web development framework that helps developers speed up development of web apps using a predefined set of functions and code scaffolding etc. ”Ruby on Rails” uses the Ruby scripting language as a base, which is quite nice, but if [...]

Compiz on Ubuntu 7.10 with ATI Radeon X1950XTX

Finally! The latest drivers from ATI, 8.42.3, has brought a working composite rendered desktop to my computer. And it did so without any fuzz whatsoever. I removed the old ATI driver I had installed through Envy, then I downloaded the new ATI driver and followed the instructions and let the automatic installer do it’s magic [...]

Downtime, WordPress 2 and Ajax

I had a little downtime a couple of days here. The culprit was a package upgrade on the host that snuck by the administrator, the upgrade overwrote some of the configuration files for the database server. So when the server had to bee rebooted, due to a system hang, the database server didn’t go back [...]

Choosing a suitable publishing format.

I have been involved with ‘the web’ for some time now, about five years or so. And I dare to call myself at least semi skilled in both design and development. I have used and tested an array of different content management systems and tools that claim to help ease publishing your content. The common [...]

Rent-a-house

The last few weeks has been terribly hectic, mostly due to the fact that we’ve moved out of the apartment and into a house. We are now proud renters of roughly 250 square meters of prime walls and ceiling accompanied by the obligatory grass lawn. The apartment weighed in at 62 square meters so the [...]

WordPress theme system close-up

It has been some time since my last post, I have been a little pressed on time and really havn’t had anything worth writing about. I’m on holiday now and have spent most of my time on three projects; the Intranet I have made for my employer, a handbook in swedish on how to use [...]

Cross-browser compliance

I am not a fan of Microsofts Internet Explorer browser, I find it twitchy, buggy, insecure and feature-less. Thusly I rearely use it, but many others unfortunately do and so one has to cope with the situations that arise when such a user enters your site. This is not news, this applies to all sites [...]

Photoshop for Photographers

I got ”The Adobe Photoshop CS book for Digital Photographers” (ISBN 91-636-0823-5) for my birthday and I must say that it really is the cats pyjamas. It is different from every other book on Photoshop(or other digital image handling software) I’ve read/skimmed through. It differs in that it doesn’t explain all the nifty function and [...]

Writing good email.

I, as many others, use email extensively for communication. I rarely use the phone anymore and have substituted it with things as email and irc. I also enjoy being a member of several mailing lists that provide me with the latest news, support and general tips in areas that I find interesting. The preferred way [...]

GDCv1 release!

Finally finished the re-design that has been in the making since I switched to WordPress. I got a surprise workload right after I uploaded the new CMS and didn’t get to finish this until now. I’ve stripped out most of the tags and made a design that is more of a blog type. I wanted [...]

Command line help

I have to admit, and that isn’t easy, that sometimes even Linux behave strangely and stop working. I have botched my X-server configuration more than once in my days and that left me with nothing more than a commandline prompt to get it back up. Now I know some of you are saying ”Hey, whaddaya [...]

New CSS uploaded.

So I finally got around to put the new theme up. I’ve deliberately toned down the ‘bling’ for some simple reasons. One is that I’m not good enough at making spiffy graphics, so no attempts have been made. Another one is that I want a flexible and easy-to-navigate layout and I thought that it might [...]

Refinement due.

WordPress is up and running smoothly now, despite some alarming install related SQL warnings. I have slabbed on some simple CSS and begun modifying the ‘default’ theme but it’s not complete yet. Until then the site may be somewhat out of focus and look silly. Have patience and bear with me.

WordPress 1.5 at the helm.

Moved the blog onto WordPress 1.5 due to various reasons. One of them being that WordPress is written in PHP and me being a PHP developer I feel more comfortable with it than I did in MovableTypes Perlscripts. Another being that I now don’t have to ‘rebuild’ the site everytime I make a change, that [...]
